Apple Moves to Intel

Attention: Nerd Alert!!!

Ok, now that we got rid of all the people who don't care. Recently some big, huge news came down the Apple pipeline. It was actually last week, but I thought I would take a week to digest it.

Apple will be moving from the PowerPC CPU made by IBM to an x86 CPU from Intel. What does that mean? Well it means that Macs will be running on PC chips. Dear God what is happening!!?!

There is a ton of speculation out there about what this means, but most people are saying that this will be a good thing. Mac hardware will come down a bit in price, and be able to run Windows. And in the reverse there is the possibility that PCs will be able to run OS X. The main reason given for the switch is that Apple was not getting the chips they needed from IBM (specifically that G5 PowerBook we've all been waiting on). Of course there are plenty of other theories about why and why now.

I was amazed upon first hearing this news, but I think I've finally come to grips with it. Now I'm in a wait and see mode, digesting all the news I can and trying to figure out what this means to me as an Apple devotee. Thank God that my PC family and friends haven't ragged on me yet, because I'm not sure what I'd tell them. I mean what do you say when the hardware you touted as being the best is being scrapped for the competitors stuff? At least I can still say that OS X is light-years ahead of windows. I mean Longhorn...come on.
