Who Likes DVDs?

I don't think I'm going to buy any more DVDs...ever.

I've been thinking about this for awhile, and I realized that I haven't bought a DVD in a couple years. I've been given a few, but I've never bought myself one. Then I started thinking about how many times I've watched any of the DVDs I do own. I could count it on one hand. I spend $20/DVD to have them sit on my shelf basically. That's not a sound investment.

Don't get me wrong, I love movies. How could I not, with the upbringing I had. When your dad runs a movie theater you grow up watching a ton of movies. I guess the variety and sheer volume of my early movie-watching has made me always hungry for a new experience, a new movie. If I have my choice I will always watch something new instead of something I've already seen. Is that strange? I don't think it is.

So why spend my money on movies I've already seen? From past experience I know I won't watch them ever again. My money would be much better spent on renting movies, maybe through Netflix or that Blockbuster Online program.

Does this seem crazy? How often do you watch your DVDs?

I agree there are movies I consided my classics. Any Monty Python movie, Father Goose, Elf, Mr. Roberts, A Christmas Story, A Christmas Carol (Scrooge, Muppets, etc.), Anger Management and any Anglo-Celtic Movie. Something to watch on a rainy day with your wife.

I guess if you want to collect certain films then buying makes sense. But I'm not too interested in collecting.

Ah, Lew,

When you get old like your old cousin here, you will like to sit with your future children,(don't drink the Indy water), and grandchildren and watch some of your favorite movies together. Some of my best memories of time with my own dad involve sitting down and watching Clint Eastwood movies or WWII themed movies. Plus how often do you get to watch "40-Year Old Virgin" with your own ADULT kid and laugh at the same jokes. Just some thoughts from your Old and soon to be Grandfather Cousin
